ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia union president is indicted for stealing close to $100,000 from the union, and warrants have been issued for his arrest.

46 year old William Price was indicted by the Dougherty County grand jury for theft by taking by a fiduciary. Prosecutors say Price left the city when he found out about arrest warrants.

Price was the president and financial secretary of the United Paperworkers International and Steel Workers Local 1762 in Albany.

Prosecutors say Price stole thousands of dollars from the union from 2003 until 2009.

Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said, "And there is a specific code section that addresses persons that are accused of taking money while they are serving as a fiduciary for a particular institution, and that is the basis of the charges regarding William Price."

The D.A. says that the union national leadership and the Department of Labor led the investigation into the thefts. Price has contacted law enforcement officials, but has not turned himself in.
