TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

An downtown Tifton apartment blaze led to a restaurant being evacuated, and it may have been sparked by arsonist.

Just before 10 o'clock last night the Tifton Fire Department got the call that a one-bedroom apartment had caught fire. When they arrived, flames were coming out of the side window.

"It was very quick. Our team did a really good job, our guys, our firefighters did a really good job. It was extinguished very quickly," says Nathan Hawkins with TFD.

One man lives in the second-story apartment and was home during the time of the blaze. He was able to get out before officials arrived on scene. Officials say he was transported by EMS to Tift Regional Medical Center. His condition unknown at this time.

The apartment sits just above La Cabana Mexican Restaurant off Main Street. When the blaze sparked, everyone inside was evacuated. No injuries were reported from the restaurant.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this but officials tell WALB investigators with the state Fire Marshall's office are considering the fire arson.
