ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A lot of parents are angry, Wednesday night, after Dougherty County School board members voted this afternoon to close two eastside schools and repurpose another.

Dougherty Middle and Sylvester Road Elementary will close next school year.

Magnolia Elementary will house special programs.

One Dougherty Middle parent told us this wasn't the outcome he expected.

"I'm upset. We don't have no other school on this side of town, the eastside, and for them to close down an eastside school, I think that's very devastating," said parent Reginald Dawson.

Board members debated the issue for several months.

A consultant repeatedly told them this plan would have the least disruption for students and staff.
