ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Georgia soldier who lost five fellow troop members in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan this month is thrilled to be home on a break from his deployment. On Wednesday, he made a surprise visit to see his niece at Albany's Magnolia elementary school.

JaMiyah Blackshear walked into her kindergarten class expecting to continue learning to count to 100, but instead she got a surprise visitor. Her Uncle Tony Calhoun has been serving the country in Afghanistan since July of 2012.  Although, she didn't know it, the soldier had been given the green light to come home for a bit. "

She was saying, I will be so glad when you get back because you know when people are in the military, they die in the military and we were like wow that's really her perception of the military," said her Aunt Jeryl Calhoun.

That's when the couple got the bright idea to reunite the Master Sergeant with his biggest fan. The kindergartner's teacher helped stage an award ceremony to distract JaMiyah, but once her uncle walked in the usually chatty little girl was suddenly at a loss for words.

"This is my little princess, I talk about her all the time over there, I was excited when my wife said she wanted to do this because leaving was a big moment for me," said Master Sergeant Calhoun

According to JaMiya's teacher, the young girl is just as fond of her uncle as he is of her. "She did dress up as a soldier for career day, she's talked about him quite a bit and I know she's very excited that he's here and surprised," said Chanda Phillips.

"He surprised me, because I love him and I want to be just like him," said a loss for words JaMiyah. Calhoun, says this particular rest and relaxation break, has even more meaning to him after the members of his unit were killed in a helicopter crash only a few weeks ago.

"Whatever she wants to do, my time is her time," said Calhoun. While there's only so much the duo can do in a few weeks, they are looking forward to making each moment count. Calhoun and his wife drove to Albany from Fort Stewart to surprise JaMiyah. They're planning a trip to sea world and just looking forward to spending time together.
