Albany Firefighters and first responders evacuated 40 residents at Albany Heights Senior Apartments following a string of overnight arson fires.
Fire investigators say the fire, the third reported at the facility since Tuesday, started around 12:30 AM on a piece of furniture in the lobby.
No major structural damage was reported but smoke did fill parts of the building prompting the residents, some physically disabled, to be removed.
Officials tell us none of the residents or workers were injured but some did complain of minor smoke inhalation complaints and were treated on scene by EMS.
Due to the overnight freezing temperatures, emergency officials set up a temporary shelter inside the Dougherty County Courthouse. The residents have since been moved to the Albany Civic Center.
An arson investigator was called in and determined the fire was intentionally set. It's the third small fire reported at the high rise apartment since 6 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
So far no word on any suspects or a motive.
We're continuing to follow this developing story and will have live reports throughout the day.
