Students enjoy new health center at Turner Elementary

Students at a Dougherty County school can now receive free health care at school.

Turner Elementary hosted an open house at the school's new health center Tuesday afternoon.

It's funded by a grant from the Healthcare Georgia Foundation.

It will provide services to students whose families might otherwise struggle to pay for quality health care.

"The students can be seen here at the school without their parent, so it helps as far as access with care if parents have transportation issues or if they're not able to take off of work to take their child to the doctor's office," said Clifton Bush with Albany Area Health Care.

The center will provide services such as vaccines, asthma and diabetes management, and nutrition advice.

Faculty and staff at Turner can also use the clinic.

It will operated by Albany Area Primary Health Care.
