Phoebe Doctors donate to Albany charities on Doctor's Day

Posted: Updated:

In honor of National Doctors' Day Phoebe Putney Hospital physicians made donations to two Albany charities.

Doctors' Day started in Winder, Georgia in 1933 and is now a nationally designated tribute day.

Phoebe Medical Staff President Dr. Steven Kitchen presented a 25-hundred dollar check to Strive to Thrive President Ausha Jackson this afternoon to help the group fight poverty.@

Dr. Kitchen said "I speak for all my colleagues on the medical staff when I say we're very invested and we're very committed to the needs of our community."

Jackson said "Health care plays a major issue with families who are in poverty. And a lot of them suffer from stress related issues as well as obesity and high blood pressure."

Phoebe Doctors also donated $2500 to Flint River Habitat for Humanity.

This is the sixth year in a row Phoebe physicians have made community donations on Doctors' day.
