The busy intersection of Cordele Road and Clark Avenue is finally cleared up Tuesday morning after Albany police, Albany firefighters, and GSP officers responded to two separate wrecks in the same spot within a five hour span. Now police say they are still on the lookout this morning for a man who fled the scene during the second wreck.
A van and a Toyota Camry collided at Clark Avenue and Cordele Road just before 9:00 p.m. Monday night. The Camry ended up upside down in the middle of the busy intersection.
A Ben Hill County EMS crew happened to be in the area. They took the 27-year-old driver of the car to Phoebe. He was released shortly after with minor injuries.
The driver of the van took off running. Police say he is still on the run Tuesday morning.
Another wreck happened earlier Monday evening around 4:30 p.m. in the same spot when a gray pickup truck collided with a GMC SUV. That SUV was also overturned in the middle of the intersection, causing traffic to be delayed and rerouted. No injuries were reported in that wreck.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating both crashes.
