LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

Congressman Sanford Bishop says he's disgusted by the lack of bipartisan compromise in the sequestration debate.

The sequester will impact south Georgia through cuts at Marine Core Logistics Base, cuts to education funding, and the closure of the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport control tower. Bishop says reasonable demands and communication could have solved the issue.

"Well, I'm very, very disgusted that we would have to find ourselves in this position...and I hope that people are not so cynical that they would use this for political purposes," said Rep. Bishop, (D) Georgia.

Bishop says blames both parties for a lack of reasonable compromise. He says he hopes a solution can be reached in the coming weeks.
