Commissioners condemn deadly violence

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some Dougherty County commissioners are speaking out about gang violence after a double homicide last week.

Commissioner John Hayes encouraged commissioners to raise awareness in the community about violent crimes and gangs. He says incidents like the deadly drive by shooting last Sunday impact the community in a number of ways, and we need to support law enforcement and get involved.

"We need to create great awareness to our citizens through neighborhood watch, neighborhood association activities. It's something that we should all be very very concerned about." said Dougherty County Commissioner John Hayes.

"It's important for anyone in this community to be concerned about the loss of life, especially among our young people. And to know that perhaps it is due to gang related activity in the community," said Dougherty County Commissioner Gloria Gaines.

Albany Police are still investigating the March 17th shooting that left two 20-year-old men dead. No arrests have been made.
