ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The City of Albany and Dougherty County officials are making sure emergency responders are prepared if South Georgia has a gas explosion.

The Water, Gas and Light commission is holding a natural gas meeting on Tuesday. The fire department, first responders and police will be informed on how to handle a gas event in our area. WG&L officials want to make sure everyone knows what other emergency agencies are responsible for.

"We've seen some major gas explosions around the country in the last couple years. This is just an educational meeting so that each department know what we do if there is a disaster or should there be gas explosion which we hope that never happens," said Lorie Farkas.

The city and county commission and the city administrator have also been invited to the meeting.
