Berrien County sees hail and high winds

NASHVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Severe weather left a path of damage throughout South Georgia. In Berrien County, a VFW building was hit hard. Strong winds knocked down flags poles and lifted the roof off the building. No one was inside at the time.

"It was kind of like a bomb went off or something. I was just thankful it wasn't worse than it was," said VFW post commander Gary Nelms.

Just around the corner, Berrien County High School football and baseball fields were also damaged by winds and rain.

We've received some pictures of what our viewers saw this morning.

Jackie Gaskins sent us a picture showing a shed completely destroyed by the high winds.

Berrien County also saw lots of hail this morning. Gary Nelms said while they had some damage, no one was hurt.

"Actually we came out real good to have a storm like that. To come out as well as we did on it," said Gary.

The VFW hopes to have the building repaired by next week.
