NASHVILLE, GA (WALB) -

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Nashville was among several buildings damaged by strong winds from a Saturday morning thunderstorm.

Hail remains on the ground in several south Georgia counties from the line of thunderstorms that moved through the area around 10:00 Saturday morning.

Post commander Gary Nelms say the storm damaged bricks in the front part of the VFW post building.

It also knocked down an awning, broke out windows and knocked down several flag poles.

Nelms says there was damage to other buildings and homes on the northside of Nashville.

The Berrien County Sheriff's Department says a shelter at Berrien Middle School was blown off.

The Middle School is located across the street from the VFW post.

Hail has also been reported in Cook and Atkinson Counties.

Berrien County remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

Other counties in the watch include: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Brooks, Camden, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Echols, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Thomas, Ware and Wayne.

WALB meteorologists Chris Zelman and Ryan Beesley are monitoring the weather and will have the latest updates on WALB.com plus at 6 & 11 on Saturday on WALB News 10 NBC/ABC.
