ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The newest member of Chehaw's kangaroo family is now named Adeline after two classes at Turner Elementary School tied in a contest to name her.

The name for the 10 month old female kangaroo was suggested by both Mrs. Vance's 3rd grade class and Mrs. Mgee's 5th grade class.

Each class got a chance to pick their favorite name after reading books and doing research on Kangaroos. The event was to engage the students by getting them involved with nature.

A student from the winning 5th grade class told us her class chose from a list of names her teacher suggested.

"She typed in Australian baby names and she wrote different names on the board and we all voted on Adeline,"said Natalie Embry, 5th grade student at Turner Elementary.

The winning classes were awarded with a picture of the baby Kangaroo and a trip to Chehaw with a behind the scenes pass at the Wild Animal Park.

Turner Elementary and Chehaw are partners in excellence.
