ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A former American Idol Runner-up was on the campus of Darton State College Thursday night, the same night as students were competing in their own singing competition.

Bo Bice performed in front of Darton students before the start of the college's singing competition called the Darton Star.

10 students battled it out to see who could sing the best and become the reigning Darton Star Champion.

Bice says all the contestants have talent and aspiring artist should push themselves everyday if they want to take their careers to the next level.

"Take tomorrow when you wake up and no matter what happens make it the next day that you're going to work harder, try harder and practice harder because that's the only way you'll be a success," said Bice.

The winner of Thursday's competition took home $200 and the title of Being Darton's Star.
