GBI investigating missing school money

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating missing money from a Calhoun County school.

The Calhoun County School Superintendent said money is missing from the general fund at Calhoun County Elementary.

They discovered the missing money through a yearly internal audit last week. After the findings, they reported the case to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The General fund is money raised through fundraiser's.

"Initially you don't want to believe that somebody would commit fraud, then it went from denial to just sick in the pit of my stomach, to hurt for the faculty, staff and parents that worked so hard to raise that money to just being mad," said Superintendent Danny Ellis.

The investigation could take about 90 days.
