LESLIE, GA (WALB) -

A Leslie man wants to know why his insurance company won't pay to have his swimming pool covered up after it mysteriously popped out of the ground last month.

So much ground water built up in Earl Kendrick's back yard, it pushed his decades-old pool right out of the ground. It's still above ground now.

Not only is it confusing, but it's become a real headache. Kendrick's backyard swimming pool continues to gain attention as word spreads about the mysterious occurrence.

"I just woke up one morning and it was out of the ground. I never seen something like it-- never heard something like it-- until I seen my own!" he said.

The 20-foot by 60-foot cement pool came up from the ground after a heavy rain. "If that water wasn't in the pool, how high would it of picked it up? That pool is 12 to 14 foot deep," he said.

It was confusing then, and he says it's still just as confusing today. But now he's confused about something else, his insurance policy. "The insurance people say they don't know. Ain't none of them know anything. They ain't seen nothing like it."

He says when he looks down in the cracks, you can see water surrounding the pool underground. Now, the pool goes up or down like a see-saw whenever it rains.

"It will come down some.. and then another big rain and it will raise back up a little bit."

It may be an interesting sight for some folks, but for Kendrick it's become a headache. He doesn't know what he's going to do about it because his insurance company told him it wouldn't be covered under the "outside structures" category.

"I'm going to have to pay to get it covered up, I'm going to fill it up and do away with the pool cause I ain't going swimming no more."

In the meantime, he hopes things don't get worse. "My house could fall through next. Good Lord, I could wake up and be out there in the yard!"

He says he's not done with the insurance company just yet. He hopes to get things straightened out, so they can cover it up for good. Kendrick says he doesn't plan on moving.
