ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
More than two dozen consular and trade officials from 23 countries are visiting business and tourism centers in southwest Georgia this week and they made a stop in Albany, Wednesday.
A dinner was held for the guests at the Flint Riverquarium Wednesday evening, hosted by the Albany-Dougherty County Economic Development Commission and Albany Convention & Visitors Bureau.
City of Albany officials and business leaders were also in attendance.
One consul told us exploring Georgia outside Atlanta is a good way to attract business.
"For a lot of people who work in consulate these days, there are many companies from their home countries who are coming to the region and they want to know where are good places to do business. A visit like this gives us the opportunity to go back and say well I was in Southwest Georgia recently and they got some really interesting stuff going on," said Consul General of Ireland Paul Gleeson.
The Consuls will spend the night in Albany. Thursday, they will visit Thrush Aircraft's manufacturing facility and proceed to Thomasville and Southwest Georgia Technical College.
