ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The guidelines have been set for a job creation fund, which will give incentives to businesses relocating or expanding in Albany.

It's been in the works for several months and today the Economic Development Commission took the next steps in moving forward.

Wednesday, the EDC approved the guidelines for the job creation fund and how the money will be distributed.  The job incentive fund was started by the Albany City Commission.

"The guidelines for distributing the money is based on the number of jobs that would be created, the investment in the community of the business that would be coming here or expanding here. And also the quality of the jobs that are here," said Jay Smith, with the EDC.

The commission plans to pay for the project with millions of dollars in reimbursements from the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia, not state money.

EDC members did not come to a decision on how to replenish the fund. They plan on reaching out to the city, county and school board for input on the best way to generate money.
