This week is Fix a Leak Week

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Environmental Protection Agency has declared this week Fix a Leak Week to bring awareness to conserving water across the country.

The EPA says minor water leaks account for more than 1 trillion gallons of water wasted each year in US homes.

The observance is a reminder for you to check household plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems for leaks.

Albany Water Gas and Light officials want to make sure their customers get the message.

"All the water that ever was is right here now. We're not going to get any more water. The water that you drink today is water that dinosaurs tromped around in. The water that you drink today that your turn on your faucet is 30 to 40 years old," said Lorie Farkas with WG&L.

Fixing easily correctable household water leaks can save homeowners more than 10% on their water bills.
