ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Students from some metro Atlanta schools didn't let federal budget cuts keep them from touring the Marine Corps Logistics Base today.

Marine Corps Junior ROTC students from Newton County High and the Navy Junior ROTC members from Stockbridge High were set to participate in the Battle Color Ceremony this morning.

That event was canceled due to the sequester spending cuts. The schools decided to come to Albany anyway and turn the trip into a training opportunity.

"It was very disappointing, but at the same time it was great to have the opportunity to be able to come out here and still see the dog demos and the rest of the things they had in store for us today," said Andrea Kydd, Heritage High School student.

Students got a full tour of the base and saw rifle and K-9 unit demonstrations. While they were disappointed that the battle color ceremony was canceled, they say they enjoyed seeing what Marines do in their everyday life.
