ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany City Commissioners voted to change their charter, instructing the WG&L general manager report to the city manager.  This change also prompted commissioners to change their oversight of the aviation commission.

They voted four to three to change an ordinance to make the airport director report to the city manager.

Commissioner Bob Langstaff says they're not changing the way the airport operates, they just want to stay consistent.  "Every other department head it says that the city manager handles their hiring and firing and sets their salary. And as a practical matter he does at for the aviation director as well. So this is just spelling it out," said Langstaff.

Commissioner Jon Howard, who voted against the change, says if it's not broke, don't fix it.  Commissioner Roger Marietta and Mayor Dorothy Hubbard also voted "no."

A final vote will be taken Tuesday, March 26.
