Grady Co. Schools focus on safety

Posted: Updated:
GRADY COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A south Georgia school system is discussing potential changes to their security protocols.

The Grady County Board of Education is working on a new strategic security plan while they make sure current rules are enforced.

School officials say all classroom doors will remain locked throughout the day.

Possible additions include new surveillance technology and armed security guards.

"School employees, but they are certified police officers. Or do we do something like we have currently here just expand it with the city police department. Or do we go to an outside security firm," said Director of Operations Jerry Cox.

"Safety and security of course with recent events is an issue that is in the forefront now, but it has always been one of our top strategic goals in Grady County," said Superintendent Dr. Tommy Pharis.

Any changes the school board approves would go into effect next school year.
