ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police are urging gun owners to protect their weapons after at least three guns were stolen from cars parked outside Northwest Albany homes over the weekend.

The guns were stolen from cars on Winchester Road, Devon Drive, and West Doublegate Drive.

Police say people continue to leave their cars unlocked, and crooks continue to steal items from them.

"They are searching cards for specific things, and one of those things are weapons at this point," said Albany Police Media Manager Phyllis Banks.  "We're still getting purses getting left in cars. Weapons, electronics, the I- Pads, the note pads."

Police again urge folks to take their valuables out of their cars, even at home, and lock their car doors. They stress you should not leave your gun in your car.
