All systems GO for another Wing Fest

Organizers of Albany's Wing Fest say next year's event will be even bigger and better. They're pleased with the success of the 3rd annual Wing Fest over the weekend, and they say they believe interest in the event will continue to grow.

There was a good crowd at the fairgrounds Saturday. Thousands of wings were sold at Wing Fest this year.

Business was so good that some vendors were even close to running out of hot wings all together.

Activities such as helicopter and train rides, dunking booths and live music drew the large crowds.

"It was a great day. The professional wrestling went over big, had a big crowd for the wing eating contest with a new champion," said Rick Schneider, Director of Wing Fest.

But the numbers show the main attractions were the wing eating and tasting contests, along with all the hot wing vendors.

Billy Boy's Wings and Barbeque in Albany opened just 9 months ago in honor of the manager's brother, Billy Boy who passed 7 years ago.

The management says it was their first year at Wing Fest and they're already seeing folks come try their wings at their restaurant because of the event.

They say they'll certainly return to compete and sell next year.

<we won best mild we speak..uh, it was a lot of people there and I'm pretty sure, like, it's going to get bigger every year," said Xavier Morris, manager of Billy Boy's Wings and Barbeque.

Organizers say they're already planning to bring in more wing restaurants from Albany.. and possibly some from other cities.

"We'll do whatever we can to try to help them be a part of the forth annual Albany Wing Fest in 2014," said Schneider.

Next year promises more food, more activities, and the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia will be a part of it again too.

The Coalition raised close to $700 for their Community Cancer Screening Program from train rides. They'll get part of the proceeds from the event itself as well.

Organizers estimate nearly four thousand attended. They're excited about those numbers and they hope for double that amount for Wing Fest next year.

They hope to have more detailed numbers on attendance and proceeds by the end of this week.
