ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The 33rd Annual Kiwanis Art Club Contest was held at Avalon Methodist Church today to recognize talented artists from South Georgia middle and high school students.

6th through 12th graders from private, public and home schools competed in the event.

30 pieces of art were chosen from each grade. Three judges gave out first through third prizes, honorable mentions for each class and three best of show winners.

Organizers say the students put a lot of hard work and dedication and the winners of today's event will advance to a state competition April 27th in Carrollton, Georgia.

"I just went on google and found a picture I liked and this was it! I graphed it out and I did it block by block," said Lindy Leitner, 12th Grade 1st place winner for the Southwest Georgia Home School Association.

Scholarships will be given to 1st place winners for college to continue their careers in art.

The Dougherty County Kiwanis Club holds fundraiser throughout the year to fund projects like today's event to help kids in the area and for child abuse awareness.
