ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Sheriff Sproul stepped up to the plate to talk to the Albany National little league at their opening Saturday.

Organizers say the Sheriff threw the first opening pitch to start the games on 8th avenue and gave words of encouragement to have fun and stay positive throughout the season.

"The lessons they learned playing baseball, they keep those lessons and advance them further in life and can help use principles that we teach them out here in the field," said Al Mckendrick, President of the Albany National Little League.

13 little league teams from Tee-ball to Major were there to play until 5 pm.

The season will continue until mid May when they have an All-Star tournament to advance to the Little League World Series.

Organizers say games are open to the public and can be a great place to bring your families every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
