Wing Fest Contestant wins contest

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Water bottles are set. Wings are hot. There's two minutes on the clock and only one contestant that comes out a winner.

That winner was Patrick Garner, a first time contestant at Wing Fest 2013.

It may have been his first, but he says it certainly won't be his last.

"I'm definitely going to try to get into next year's contest and you know, maybe I might have a second career as a food eating champion," Patrick Garner.

There were 6 contests at the event Saturday for best tasting wings and even a clucking contest at six thirty for both kids and adults.

People who attended gathered for wrestling matches, live music, and helicopter and train rides.

Proceeds from the train ride went to the partial beneficiary of the event, The Cancer Coalition of South Georgia.

The Coalition raises funds for cancer research, screenings, education and care grants.

This was the coalitions 2nd year to be a part of this annual event.

"We ordered a great day today. The sun is shining and it's beautiful and it's a really nice crowd that's here," said Diane Fletcher, Chief Executive Officer of the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia.

Mayor Dorothy Hubbard helped begin today's event by welcoming people in.

There were several vendors at the event and organizers say Wing fest gets bigger every year and they plan to keep it going for years to come.

Donations also went to help the Albany Fire Department and the Exchange Club.
