ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Symphony is teaming with the Carnegie Foundation to bring classical music to kids in our area.

Friday about 1200 third through fifth graders from Dougherty and Lee Counties enjoyed a performance of Gustav Holst's Mars, the Bringer of War at the Municipal Auditorium.

It was more than just entertainment.

The symphony showed the link between music and language.

Organizers hope to show this type of music can still be popular even in the age of MP3s.

"It's just a fantastic exposure to classical music that they wouldn't ordinarily get," said Lark Ledbetter, the Executive Director of the Albany Symphony.

The symphony performed again Friday night at the Municipal Auditorium in a show designed for families.

It starts at 7:30.

Tickets are available at the auditorium box office.
