ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police now plan to drop charges against a man who ran naked down one of Albany's busiest roads.

They say medical help is what he needs most.

26-year old David Mattison was initially charged with public indecency after he caused what police call a "chaotic scene" late Thursday afternoon on North Slappey Boulevard.

A witness took this video that's circulating on Facebook.

Police were called to Mattison's home earlier in the day and were told he's bi-polar and was off his medication.

E-M-S transported Mattison to Phoebe,  but he ran away from the hospital.

Police say he stopped at Red Lobster and yelled at customers, then ran south and took off his clothes.

About 5:30 Police tased him.

Mattison is still hospitalized for evaluation.

"Right now according to the report that was filed, the case is now cleared based on his mental stability," said Albany Police Media Manager Phyllis Banks.  "And I believe that is going to be the just of it, once he has completed observation at the hospital."

Police say they tased him because they were concerned about his safety and the safety of drivers in the area.

Mattison has previous arrests, mostly for probation violations after minor drug offenses.
