LAKE PARK, GA (WALB) -

City leaders in a Lowndes County town are looking for a new police chief tonight.

Lake Park council members voted to demote Chief Tim Baker to a patrol officer after he failed to get his Terminal Access Coordinator certification, known as TAC.

Mayor Eric Schindler says he advised Baker he needed to get certified multiple times.

Without having anyone in the department certified, police reports couldn't be turned in to the state.

Schindler says in the 14-months Baker was chief, not one report was filed with the GBI or other state agencies.

"It's mandated through the state, it's not something that you might want to do or not want to do. This is something that is mandated to maintain your police certification," said Schindler.

Schindler says they hope to have all chief applications in by April 15th, and are requiring applicants to be TAC certified or become TAC certified.
