Two arrested with marijuana in stolen car

The Tift County Sheriff's Office says that a man and a woman were arrested Tuesday after a deputy investigated and found that the car was reported stolen in Colorado. He recovered pot, and a stolen pistol.

Deputy Chris Strickland was patrolling I-75. Tuesday March 12th, when he noticed a 1999 Subaru traveling the same direction he was going and they were traveling slow and would not pass his patrol car.

Strickland exited the interstate and was able to get the license plate number of the car and ran in through GCIC. The response was that the car was stolen from Lakewood Colorado. The vehicle later exited I-75 and Strickland observed it stop at a local business, he called for backup and then approached the vehicle.

Deputies James Lindsey and Mike Purvis arrived to assist as did ABAC Police. Once the occupants of the vehicle were secured a search of the vehicle was conducted. A Kimber .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol reported stolen in Lakewood Colorado was recovered as was less than an ounce of marijuana.

It was also determined that Martin had given a false name to Strickland, when initially claimed to be Jonathan Underwood. Investigator Adam Tanner is doing the follow-up investigation and has been in contact with the authorities in Colorado.

Martin remains in the Tift County Jail. Barbour has been released on bond.

Daniel Jake Martin age 26 of Lakewood Colorado Martin is charged with driving w/ suspended license, giving a false name, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, open container while operating a motor vehicle, two counts of theft by receiving stolen property, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is from Lakewood Colorado. Martin is also wanted in Jefferson County Colorado on charges of Failure to Appear (original charge Identity Theft).

Mackenzie Brianna Barbour age 17 of Lakewood, Colorado is charged with two counts of theft by receiving stolen property, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Barbour had been reported missing to authorities in Colorado. Martin remains in the Tift County Jail. Barbour has been released on bond.
