ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany homeless man is sentenced to 3-years in prison for breaking into the Albany Fire Department Headquarters.

64-year old Willie Joe Munford pleaded guilty to burglary and theft by taking.

Prosecutors say last April, while firefighters slept upstairs, Munford broke into the station on North Jackson Street by shattering the glass on a back door.

He broke into a filing cabinet and stole $60 in petty cash.

Munford was identified because his break-in was caught by city surveillance cameras.

"Well, actually without the cameras we would not have caught him at all," said Chief James Carswell.  "We were able to by viewing the video tapes of the camera feed. We were able to see all of his efforts trying to get into the building."

Munford was ordered to pay $1775 to the Fire Department for the damage after he serves his 3-years in prison.
