DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Officials with the southwest Georgia based power company, Mitchell EMC, say two of their six main power circuits blew during last night's heavy rains which caused massive power outages along Sylvester Road in Dougherty County.

Officials say around 450 homes and businesses lost power after a circuit blew just before 2 o'clock Tuesday morning. Security guards at Southern Ag say they heard a loud pop and saw the circuit sparking while patrolling the area and immediately called Mitchell EMC.

Crews arrived and were able to repair the blown circuit and restore power to those meters in the area within an hour.

Officials say they also had a 55 meter power outage off Duran Drive in Worth County as well another 83 meter outage off Cairo Highway in Mitchell County. They believe those were also a result of Tuesday night's heavy rains and winds.

Crews say the only area still without power is their Camilla substation off Cairo Highway in Mitchell County. They hope to have those meters restore within the hour.
