Albany nightclub owner continues to fight for alcohol license

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The owner of a troubled Albany nightclub hopes a judge will help him get his alcohol license back.

The owner of Big Daddy's Lounge is suing the city.

On January 29th, City commissioners voted not to renew the bar's alcohol license after police testified about numerous fights in the business and a murder that happened nearby.

Gilbert Udoto says he's happy Judge Willie Lockette will hear his suit that claims the city did not follow proper legal procedures in taking his license away.

"I'm elated. I feel great. I feel justice is being served because my establishment didn't have anything to do with the homicide. The homicide happened 300 yards on the other side," said Udoto.

Big Daddy's remains open, but cannot serve alcohol pending the outcome of that Superior Court hearing set for March 27th.

Albany police asked city commissioners not to renew alcohol licenses for five bars this year.

Big Daddy's was the only one that lost its license.
