ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County school system will have to pay back hundreds of thousands of dollars to the state in misused Title I money.

Interim Superintendent Dr. David Mosely confirmed Monday night the system inappropriately spent the federal money meant to go to programs that directly help disadvantaged students.

Dr. Mosely says they're now working to repay nearly $400,000.

"There's a little bit of negotiating room, but I feel like it will be over $300,000 and probably less than $400,000," said Dr. Mosely.

We told you last week the system decided to put an end to the Saturday school program designed to help struggling students catch up because the interim Title I director realized it wasn't being implemented in accordance with federal guidelines.
