ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Red Cross is putting out an urgent call for volunteers to help respond to disasters such as tornadoes, fires and floods.

The Flint River Chapter has a critical need for disaster and office support volunteers.  Officials want to get volunteers trained quickly, so they'll be ready to respond if we have any severe weather damage this spring.

"We're kind of at an all time low on volunteers right now and I don't know why, really, but we need all we can get," said Edmond Cawley, Red Cross DAT Captain for the Flint River Chapter.

The Red Cross launched a new 'Volunteer Connection' web site that officials say is easy to use and allows new volunteers to match their skills and interests to the need of the organization.

They say the site will also help improve Red Cross' response to the community.

If you're interested in volunteering for the Flint River Chapter of Red Cross visit their web site at FlintriverARC.org and fill out an application or contact their Americus office at (229) 924-2026.
