TIFT CO., GA (WALB) -

Folks continue to dump trash at a Tifton Cemetery, and it's getting worse. Greenwood Cemetery, located on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive has become a public dump site, where TVs, sofas, and other electronics have been dumped on the property.

Just recently, someone dumped 27 tires, and even a dead dog. Now, code enforcement officials and others are ramping up patrol in hopes of putting an end to the issue.

"I'm not sure exactly what the problem is but on the enforcement side we will be prosecuting them when we catch them so we are just keeping a good patrol on the area," said Russell Gay of Tifton/Tift Co. Code Enforcement.

In Tift County, a first offense is punishable by up to $1,000 and the second offense, $1,200 and even jail time.
