WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

Heavy rain and flooding had a lasting effect in Worth County where a handful of roads remain closed.

Public Works employees have been working overtime to re-open and repair roads around the county. At one point, 44 were closed. Now, Blue Gill Road, Old Mail Road, Brantley Road, and Jerry Young Road are still shut down.

The closures continue to have a big impact on people who live on or near them. "I mean it's affected us pretty bad. I mean, when you're going to work and all, I work on Smokey Hill Plantation. I gotta go the long way around. It's pretty bad," said David Harden.

Harden's commute has doubled in distance since Jerry Young Road washed out. The Public Works department says damage to that road was among the worst.

They hope to have all the roads back open soon.
