Dougherty County leaders say they're working to make sure the Marine Corps Logistics Base remains a vital part of our economy, even with deep budget cuts taking effect.
Monday, Dougherty County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard gave fellow commissioners a briefing on his recent trip to Washington, DC with other city and county leaders.
One main topic of conversation was MCLB.
The local group met with Marine Corps leaders to discuss what they're doing to make sure the base is running efficiently.
"Particularly make sure that we're doing our part to help our partners at the marine base and to understand in dealing with the marine corp in DC. That we have the big picture and we're doing the things that we need to do as a community in keeping that partnership strong," said Jeff Sinyard, the Dougherty County commission chairman.
Sinyard says an example that was discussed was a green energy partnership that turns gas from the county landfill into power for the base.
