ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Exchange Club of Albany honored a stand out student Friday at their luncheon. Deborah Igbalajobi accepted the Challenge of Excellence award, given to a high school student that has overcome great adversity to excel in school and life.

The chairperson for the award says the young lady is more than deserving of today's honor.

"You have a lot of kids that get dealt a bad hand starting out and rarely do you hear about the kids that succeed in spite of that and what we want to do is give them an award to help them feel good about where they come from and encourage them to keep trying," said Russ Allen.

"There is a God there is a God and he's out there and even though you feel like everything is going wrong he's putting your through that situation for a reason," said Deborah.

Deborah received a cash award of five hundred dollars to use however she wishes.
