VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta is named one of the top hospitals in Georgia for patient care.

SGMC is one of 11 hospitals listed in the Georgia Hospital Association's Hospital Engagement Network Safety Leaders Circle.

The hospital was recognized for work to reduce infections and other conditions patients acquire in the hospital.

"This type of recognition should be validation for our community that we have achieved excellence because we're not just saying this ourselves or tooting our own horn, we're being compared to our peers in the state," said Ken Kiser, SGMC Chief Nursing Officer.

Hospital officials say their patient care commitment will continue to improve with the completion of a state-of-the-art patient tower that will open this fall.
