ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County Police officers stopped 27-year-old Christopher Paul Pearson for texting while driving, and improper lane change on the Liberty Bypass Wednesday night.

They were issuing him a ticket when they got a radio call alert about a man matching Pearson's description, in connection with an entering auto on Lovers Lane Road.

Neighbors had seen him leaving the area, and called police.

A search turned up over $8,000 worth of stolen property.

Pearson, a convicted felon, also had a shotgun and a pistol that had been stolen. It was part of the loot he is accused of stealing from a Lee County home in the area.

Lee County has charges pending against Pearson, who DCP says has an extensive criminal record.

He is still in the Dougherty County jail.
