ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Organizers of the Albany Mardi Gras Street Festival are already working on ways to pay for next year's event after losing money this year.

They met this week to explore new funding options, including attracting more sponsors and holding fundraisers to support the event.

Saturday's cold weather kept attendance down to a little more than 5,000, the second lowest attendance ever for the festival that has attracted up to 50,000 people.

"We just don't have as large of a fund to start next year, which means we have to work a little bit harder, get out there and find some sponsors, look at how we're going to spend our money for next year's event and build that account back up," said Organizer Tommy Gregors.

Organizers are optimistic they'll be able come up with enough money to put on a successful event next year.
