ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

After long lines initially, things are calming down at the Dougherty County tax office. Workers say things are flowing better now that they have a better handle on the new system.

However, the office is expecting more appeals on the value of used cars because now if you buy a car from an individual you will pay a 6.5% title tax based on what the state says the car is worth.

"We are anticipating that we will have more motor vehicle appeals. We only had one last year but because, what they are going to be paying is going to be tied to the fair market value and will be based on what the state assessment list the value as. We expect that those purchasing vehicles from other individuals may file appeals," said Denver Hooten, the director of the Dougherty County tax/tag department.

Tax workers are still asking that people remain patient with them as they adjust to the changes.
