ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Power was knocked out at an east Albany school this morning after a car crashed into a nearby utility pole.
The Dougherty County School System says that Students from the Sylvandale Pre-K Center are attending class today at Live Oak Elementary. Students in the Oaktree program are attending school at Jackson Heights Elementary.
Both groups will be transported back to Sylvandale for regular release time this afternoon.
DCSS says that "WG&L estimates the return of power by mid-afternoon so we expect a regular day, tomorrow. At release time, today, students will travel home by their usual means be it bus, personal transportation or walking."
Police say around 4:20 Thursday morning, a wreck at the intersection of Cordell Avenue and Estelle Street caused dozens of homes in that area to lose power, as well as Sylvandale Pre K Center.
Power to those homes have since been restored by Albany Water, Gas and Light.
Police say the driver of that vehicle walked away with minor injuries. The cause of that crash is unknown at this time.
