ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

It's almost time to lace up your walking shoes and take a step to support cancer patients and survivors.

The annual Relay for Life is the largest fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The goal in Albany this year is to have 80 teams. So far, 36 teams have signed up.

The event will be April 19th at 6 p.m. at Darton College. Organizers say it's a celebration of life.

"The moment you're diagnosed with cancer we considered you a cancer survivor. You heard the word, you have "cancer." So that's more of a celebration lap. So many people are touched by that survivor lap and being able to make it around that track for that lap and know they have fought this battle," said Chealsea Cromer.

You can help in the fight against cancer. A meeting for relay teams will be held at 6 p.m. March 14 at Poterfield United Methodist Church on Dawson Road.
