The Lee County Sheriff's Department is now working with the Albany Crime stoppers. The Lee County Sheriff's Department asked to join the Albany Crime-stoppers program. The Sheriff's Department believes it will be a helpful tool in closing some cases.
High winds Tuesday night and Wednesday threaten to knock down more trees. They brought down two trees in Leesburg late Tuesday afternoon. Both blocked traffic.
One tree fell all the way across Starksville Avenue near 5th Street about 5:00 p.m. Public works crews responded immediately.
As they cut up the tree and removed it, police rerouted traffic and warned that more trees could be knocked over tonight. Capt. Chris Prokesh said, "The ground's just saturated from all the rain we've had. That with the high winds, it's just that the root structure is not able to hold the weight of the trees up. The ground's so soft."
A large pine tree fell across another part of Starksville Avenue.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the trees did not knock out power.
