ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Another Albany Marathon and Mardis Gras Street Festival has come and gone and again.
Community members made us proud by volunteering countless hours. Unfortunately, the weather drove attendance for the events down from an anticipated 40,000, to only about five thousand. Even so, the city put on a quality event that Albany can be proud of.
Organizers of the Mardi Gras Street Festival say the weekend event lost money and they'll have to work hard to find a way to pay to have the usually well-attended festival back downtown next year.
That means we all need to work to make this event a success for our community. Let's help promote it, volunteer to work it and do what we can to put the spotlight on out city again next year.
Congrats to all the organizers on their efforts! We hope that future years will bring peak participation once again!
