Right in the center of the Mardi Gras action Saturday was the Riverquarium's annual Turtle Race.
Folks watched as thousands of rubber turtles were dumped into the Riverquarium's waterfall to see which one makes it down first. Each turtle is $5 and all proceeds go to the Riverquarium.
"It's really cool! We just kind of stumbled upon it and we think it's a really cool idea. We even bought five turtles ourselves just to join in on the fun," said Dean Lofton, who is visiting from Florida.
This year's Turtle Race prizes include $5,000 in cash; a white gold and diamond necklace from Allen's Jewelers; $1,200 in gas from Homerun Foods; $1,000 in groceries from Publix; a Hobie Lanai kayak from Huggins Outboard; a Taste of Albany package which includes $150 in gift cards from area restaurants; a SCUBA certification class from Adventure Dive Center; and a $100 gift certificate from Cycle World.
